Okay
A private island and a red timber cabin, plus an optional bear safari – it doesn’t get more Swedish than this! And all just 2hrs north of Stockholm.
This holiday is about the silence, remoteness and traditions surrounding rural Sweden. A typical Swede works in a big city, such as Stockholm, but will have a summer house somewhere by a lake, easily accessible within 2 or 3 hours of Stockholm, such as Ockelbo - a place to escape, relax, recharge the batteries and forget about work and big city life for a few days.
Now it's your turn. Fly to Stockholm, jump on the train (or pick up a car) and speed through the countryside to Ockelbo. Your hosts Jeroen or Sam are waiting for you at the station and will take you to your isolated private island somewhere in middle Sweden. Now it's time to simply relax and forget about everything else. Enjoy this moment.
A canoe is available for you to island hop and discover the little nooks and crannies of the lake at your leisure. Activities and experiences change throughout the seasons:
Spring
In spring the colour returns to the countryside and the days get longer and longer until the nights vanish and turn to dusk and twilight. Sweden comes alive!
Summer
Sweden is famous for long summer days and during June, July and most of August Swedes immerse themselves in warm lakes and spend most of their waking hours outdoors.
Autumn
Bright reds, yellows and browns create a picturesque backdrop and the early morning mist dances like fairies over the lakes. The best time of year to walk and hike in this region.

A little red cabin in the forest, on a private island somewhere in middle Sweden - it doesn't get more typically Swedish than this! Let the pace of life slow to a leisurely stroll, a gentle paddle in the canoe or a refreshing swim in the lake. Simply relax, enjoy the view and listen to the sound of nature.
Kabin has space for a maximum of 5 people (a double bed and space for 3 in single beds) and is only accessible by boat. There is running water and electricity which are genuine luxuries in the wilderness. There is a shower, but if you prefer Swedish, try a dip in the lake!
Your meals are based on permaculture design principles with a heavy emphasis on locally produced and organic food. Your stay at Kabin is about reducing our impact on the environment and being at one with nature. The organic ingredients for your meal will be provided along with a mouth-watering recipe – cook at your leisure!
A cosy bed and breakfast which was once the parish hall in the typical Swedish village of Åmot. It is surrounded by hills and forests and is easily accessible from Stockholm.
Stilleben is a place for quiet reflection. You won't find TVs here but you will find endless nature trails and plenty of local wildlife. It is not unusual to see moose and deer and although you are unlikely to see them, you will probably find traces of bear, wolf and lynx.
With a total of 4 rooms you can be sure of a small and personal experience. The old parish hall has just 2 bedrooms and the old blacksmiths cottage, just a couple of minutes walk along the river, also has 2 rooms. The 2 rooms in the old hall share a bathroom and the 2 rooms in the cottage are ensuite and one has a private sauna, called the Deluxe room.
Replace or add a night at Stilleben.
Come along to the mountain of the bears, for a unique opportunity to get up close to the European brown bear. Enter their natural habitat and absorb the special ambience of the wilderness. Join our guide on animal trails, past feeding marks, footprints and resting places to capture the perfect picture. Just remember, silence is golden!
Departure for the wilderness camp in the evening and return at 9am the following morning. Accommodation is in a wilderness cabin and sleeping bags are provided. Wilderness breakfast and snacks included during the tour and you need to bring walking boots and warm clothing. This is a private tour exclusively for your group.
Sauna & Hot Tub
Relax in the floating sauna and hot tub at Stilleben during the evening. Recharge your batteries in the calm surroundings of this quiet Swedish Village. Bring swimming costumes!

Medieval Times - 2hrs
Step into the Middle Ages with a musical experience filled with Scandinavian folktales. Vikings, trolls and young maidens are never far away! A "spelman" and "herding maiden" welcome you to their home. "Viking shots" (non-alcoholic) and vegetarian soup are served, just like in Medieval times, together with delicious bread and cheese. Listen to the magic "kulning" (unique calling-singing developed by women to communicate in the high mountains and deep forests), echoing off the ancient hills of the Swedish backcountry. Walking boots required.
