Welcome to Norway’s first ice hotel. Since 2000 Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel has been constructed annually on the banks of the Alta River and is perfect for admiring the starry night sky and the magical northern lights.
As with all ice hotels, lighting is an important and impressive part of your overall experience. Low energy fiber optic and LED lighting illuminates the dazzling ice structures, art and figures. Perfect for helping to preserve a hotel made of ice and our fragile environment.
Sorrisniva is in the heart of nature’s larder and is home to Laksestua, the famous Salmon Hut restaurant. The Alta River, the Alta Fjord and Finnmark Mountain Plateau provide the raw materials for your mouth-watering meal, prepared by the award winning chef, Johnny Trasti.
All ice hotels succumb to the power of the sun during the spring. As the midnight sun looms and snow turns to water, your hotel returns to nature and flows into the Alta Fjord. Long summer days take over until the autumn and Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel returns the following winter.
Stengelsegårdenis Lodge is just 10 minutes from Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel on the Alta River. With a spacious open plan lounge and dining room there is no better place to be than relaxing in front of the roaring open fire. Your meals are also prepared by Johnny Trasti, who is the partner of your host, Trine.

Day 1
Fly from UK to Alta (via Oslo).
Transfer to Sorrisniva.
Guided tour, issue of warm clothing.
3 course evening meal.
Check in to your room of ice.
Day 2
Breakfast and morning sauna.
Snowmobile excursion.
Transfer to Stengelsegårdenis Lodge.
Afternoon at leisure.
3 course evening meal.
Evening hunting the northern lights.
Day 3
Breakfast. Husky excursion including lunch.
3 course evening meal.
Day 4
Breakfast.
Transfer to the airport.
Flights back to the UK (via Oslo).
You will sleep in thick comfortable sleeping bags as the temperature inside Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel is a consistent -4C to -7C, no matter how cold it gets outside. Winter temperatures average -8C in this area. Adjacent to Igloo Hotel you will find the famous Salmon Hut restaurant and a welcoming open fire.
Warm bathrooms, sauna and shower facilities are also located here as are facilities to secure your personal belongings. Book the Jacuzzi locally.

Stengelsegårdenis Lodge is by the Alta River, which originates on the Finnmark Plateau and flows through the Alta Canton into the Alta Fjord. With just 10 bedrooms and 19 beds this is a small and personal location just 20mins from the city of Alta. The simple comfortable bedrooms are all ensuite and wifi is available throughout the lodge. The area is free from artificial light so you simply have to step outside to see the northern lights.
The lounge and dining room offer a spacious open plan comfortable area to relax in front of a roaring open fire. All meals are prepared using locally sourced ingredients by Johnny Trasti, Trines partner (your head husky guide), who is recognised as one of the leading chefs in Norway.

Snowmobile Excursion
Following a short safety briefing you follow your guide through the snow-covered forests and up into the mountains. Finnmark Plateau is your destination and the stunning views that accompany it. 10am for 2hrs.
Northern Lights Hunt
With a northern lights chase you do increase your chances of seeing the northern lights. Together with your guide, and some local weather information, you will decide in which direction to head. This trip also includes warm drinks and snacks, guidance about how to use your camera and tripod plus northern lights photos from your evening taken by your guide. A minibus tour so the groups are never very big. 7pm for up to 6hrs.
Husky Excursion
A hands on husky excursion along the Alta River valley. Following some simple guidance you are given a list of names and you will find your own team of huskies. Each kennel is labelled with a name and it is your job to harness your huskies to your sled. When the teams are ready it’s time to head out into the wilderness and enjoy your day exploring this wonderful area. Lunch is served around an open fire during the tour. This tour requires a reasonable degree of fitness. 10am for 6hrs.
