Forget the Big Ships - Norwegian Fjords

Experience the beauty and culture of the Norwegian fjords by scenic coach, small boats and a spectacular rail journey from the tiny fjord village of Flåm.

Overview

This is a beautiful holiday in the southern Norwegian fjords, allowing you to indulge in Norwegian fjords culture in a way that simply cannot be experienced when travelling on a large cruise ship. Using local transport services to negotiate the fjords gives a sense of freedom and an appreciation of true magnificence of the Norwegian fjords. Steep mountains and deep fjords offer unique photo opportunities during long summer days.

Stavanger is a beautiful coastal town with its foundations in the 11th century. Located in the south western corner of Norway you will find colourful streets with listed buildings. The Lysefjord is a major attraction along with the pulpit rock, standing 604m above the Lysefjord.

From Bergen, the Hardangerfjord is easily accessible with regular sightseeing tours by coach and boat. Bergen is also a great location from which to admire the scenery from vantage points. The city funicular and the cable car at the Seven Mountains are such places. From here you will take the express boat to Flåm.

Flåm is located at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, an extension of Sognefjord and a village with a famous railway. From Flåm take the famous Flåm railway to Myrdal (one of the world’s steepest railway lines) and change to the regular trains for a journey back to Bergen.
